2021/5/6 Russia Developed a New Type Battery to Complete Charging

    2021-04-26

Scientists at St. Petersburg National University (spbu) have developed a new type of polymer based solid-state battery that can be charged in seconds, according to a notice from the Information Department of spbu, Russian satellite news agency reported.

According to Oleg Levin, a professor in the Department of electrochemistry at St. Petersburg National University, in order to develop this kind of battery, scientists have synthesized a polymer based on niserem complex. The molecular structure of the polymer can realize high power, capacitance and low temperature characteristics at the same time. In addition, unlike cobalt based batteries, which are widely used today, it has nothing that can catch fire or explode. It also contains tens of times less metals that can cause harm to the environment.

However, this kind of battery is not without disadvantages. At present, its battery capacity is 30% to 40% less than that of lithium battery. Oleg said that efforts are being made to improve this index while maintaining the charge discharge rate.

It is understood that the developers of this new battery are now applying for a patent for its invention, and the patent right will belong to St. Petersburg National University.
